Beginner Tutorial

Welcome!

We all have to start somewhere and at ‘On A Roll Crafting’, we LOVE newbies! Whether you’ve just bought your machine, finally decided to open that box after 3 years, or you’re ready to try something new, we’re committed to making sure you have the right supplies AND resources to be successful!
We put together some information you might find useful:

**All products come with custom On A Roll product labels. These labels include the manufacturer, the color, and a QR code. The QR code will take you directly back to the product on our website. Add it directly into your cart when you are running low and it will be there when you go to reorder!

Oracal Adhesive Vinyl:

This is our adhesive vinyl and is a GREAT place to start. It’s rated for outdoors but it works for indoors also. Perfect for blanks like metal cups, vinyl bags, glass and wood projects. Don’t forget to check out the permanent 851 Glitter! It will make any project *Sparkle*! Both products require transfer paper, which is a clear film that keeps your image together while you pull it off the vinyl backing. There are lots of choices when it comes to transfer paper, but we specifically carry the Siser® brand because it is clear, it has the right amount of tack for grip and release, and it has a grid on it that really helps to make sure your image goes on straight. It also has a backing on it and we recommend saving it to reuse again. Check out the YouTube links in the products page for a tutorial on how to apply the vinyl.
If you are just starting out, check out our Quick Kits. We’ve prepackaged projects for you to just give it a try. You pick the kit and you are good to go! Be sure and tag us on Facebook when you complete your project. We wanna see!

Siser® Heat Transfer Vinyl:

The leading brand in heat transfer material, or HTV, this stuff is a staple in any craft space. It does not require a heat press, but that sure does help! Here’s a video if you just have an iron: How To Properly Iron-On Siser® Heat Transfer Vinyl

We offer: Matte, Glitter, Glow in the Dark, Fluorescents and Patterns for you to heat press onto your fabric of choice. HTV is cut from the bottom up and the carrier sheet is already on the back. All images need to be reversed when you are cutting.

On pattern material, you do NOT reverse the image and make sure you pick up the mask for this! Similar to the transfer paper, it helps to move your image to its new home before you press. The mask is heat resistant, protects the design, and peels right off after. Be sure and check out the YouTube tutorial on how to apply on the products page.

All HTV products press at different temperatures, pressures, and time. Check out the guides on the product page for specific directions for the product you are purchasing! They are also on our custom Product Labels.

If you are ready to try HTV, check out our Quick Kits. Again, they come with everything you need to complete the project, you just pick the kit! We encourage crafters to reuse the box and wrap it for a gift! It’s just waiting for your Craft Magic! Tag us on Facebook before you send it! We love to see what you make!

**HTV also comes with Product Labels. Scan the QR code when you are getting low or run out and it will take you directly there. It makes reorders a BREEZE!

Sublimation:

Sublimation is a process where the ink is transferred to the substrate by turning the ink into a vapor. Just know that you will need sublimation ink, sublimation paper and a sublimation printer. If you are using an ecotank style printer, make sure it is new and does not have old ink mixed into the tanks. With EasySubli®, print your design on the sublimation printer using their transfer product, use the print and cut feature on your craft cutter to cut out your design, and the heat from your press will make the colors VIBRANT! Parchment paper does a great job of keeping the sublimation ink from transferring onto your press. The EasySubli® will also go onto a cotton shirt, not just 100% polyester like you typically need for sublimation garments.  Our Glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl is also compatible with sublimation! Check out this video!

Tools:

We have tried to bring you the products that we have personally found to be the easiest to work with. Everything we offer, we use in our own personal craft space. iVyne is a company we’ve partnered with because their weeding tools aren’t just PRETTY, they are HARDY! Don’t miss out on the berries (scrap collector), which keep all the tiny pieces off your floor! We offer Teflon sheets for your heat press and rulers to keep your t-shirt design centered! Sublimation accessories are included here as well.

Blanks:

Check out the blanks we carry. We will continue to add to these as we find products that we feel meet our standards.

We’re committed to give you all the resources you need to be successful in whatever you want to make! We hope you find our site a delight to shop!
